2nd Project Meeting for "Unknown HERoines"
TED Sakarya College was accepted for its project called "Unknown Heroines", which it will carry out for
2 years with schools including Spain, Poland, Estonia and Greece within the scope of Erasmus+ Program.
The first activity of the Erasmus+ Project with the theme of “Unknown Heroines in Music, Art and Literature” took place in Krakow, Poland between 26th and 30th September. Students and teachers from five project partner countries Spain, Estonia, Poland, Greece and Turkey came together in Poland. Our 7th and 9th grade students Doruk Ortakçı, Öykü Beren Çelik, Aylin Filiz, Eylül Berfe Polat and Ela Büyükbıçakçı represented our school. Participating students gained experience of getting to know different cultures, recognizing and interpreting female characters who are not very successful in their fields, thanks to the works that five countries are project partners and carry out together. At the same time, our participant students improved their speaking, understanding and interpreting skills in a foreign language. This mobility guided our students' progress towards becoming global citizens.
As the 2nd project meeting, TED Sakarya Koleji, hosted as Turkish team for the Erasmus+ project entitled: "Unknown HERoines" with code 2020-1-PL01-KA229-081548. Five students, Mustafa Efe Güzel, Aleyna Bosnalı, Duru Esma Sipahi, Fatma Duru Kılıçaslan and Fatma Sinem Atay accompanied by English teachers Sahranur Cebeci Filiz, Kübra Nur Ayaz Öztürk, Erman Tağarcık, Meryem Misket, Ümmügülsüm Tekin, Elif Şara Satı, Hilal Gece, Burçin Yetim, and the Turkish coordinator Aslı Camkıran, in Sakarya, Turkey, from 6 to 10 November 2021. The participating countries in this program are: Poland, Turkey, Greece, Estonia and Spain.
Our students, who will visit 3 countries in groups of 5 (already had a visit to Krakow, Poland) and host students from these countries, showed great interest in the project.
The goal of the project is to address the problem of the position of women in our collective history and culture and to highlight women who, while excelling in their field, are nevertheless "forgotten" or "underestimated".
The topic of the 2nd project meeting was women in Science and Informatics. The students of our school in this meeting presented: Canan Dağdeviren (Turkish scientist), Rezzan Topaloğlu (nephrology doctor), Prof.Dr.Betül Kaçar (Assistant professor of Astrobiology-director of NASA Astrobiology, Ayben Karasu Uysal (Experimental Physicist) and Özlem Salahi Köken (Postdoc researcher).
In all European programs, apart from the actions and activities related to their topic, a very important part is the visits to museums, monuments and cultural places of the country that hosts us. Thus, in the context of a cultural visit, we have the chance to visit Istanbul and the most important and historical places there.
Our project group students started the first day of the mobility by attending the 'Welcome Ceremony' at TED Sakarya College with their host peers. After the opening speech and ice breaking activities, the students made the first stages of their presentations (literature) and poster preparations. Afterwards, they ended their day with a visit to Sapanca, experiencing entertaining outdoor activities and dinner by lakeside.
On the 2nd day, students made presentations called “Unknown HERoines in Science&IT” and introduced unknown female characters that remained hidden in the history of the country. After the presentations, they had a trip to Istanbul, enjoyed the day with a visit to museums, monuments and historical places.
On the 3rd day, after all presentations and activities finished, students made a visit to Sakarya University and learned many things in the field of science and IT by the experts’ introductions. The teams ended the day with ‘Farewell Ceremony’ by getting their certificates.
Staying with Turkish families for 4 days, the Polish and Spanish group students gained insight into the way of life, socio-cultural structure and food culture of the people of the region, as well as all the knowledge and experience they gained. They left their families and friends in the happiness of the lasting friendships they had made. Our students are eagerly awaiting the next event to be held in Greece in January.
Note that all activities were carried out always taking into account the protection and hygiene measures against the
Covid-19 pandemic.
